Scott's heart and energy is in the well known St. Louis charity, Old Newsboys.  He has spent the last several years watching Old Newsboys impact children right here in St. Louis with grants of over $3 million. After being introduced to the organization by his good friend and past president of the Suburban Journals, Joe Pepe, he was eager to help raise money for St. Louis’s children.

Scott has played a prominent role serving with the leadership team of Old Newsboys. It has been their passion over the years to help Old Newsboys keep alive the tradition of never turning away a child in need for assistance. This is done in large part through the generosity of local businesses that participate as Business Edition Leaders.  Scott was honored to accept the position of the Chairman of the Business Edition Leaders in 2008.

“Old Newsboys has been coined as the “charity of last resort”. Having spent time this past year on the grant committee, I am truly amazed at the impact this group of generous people make on our community by providing items such as blankets, tricycles, learning tools, and first aid kits, just to mention a few. It is truly a blessing to be a part of a tradition as unique and special as Old Newsboys!”

Scott Niekamp, Managing Partner John M Qualy, Managing Director Steve Gross, along with many other financial advisors  at Northwestern Mutual have supported Old Newsboys through the years.  Northwestern Mutual and is advisors are dedicated to serving the needs of St. Louis children.  This year, this team was able to award Old Newsboys with over $20,000 from the Foundation, as well as personal contributions as well as many  hours of time donated to this charity.

John M Qualy was chosen to throw out the first pitch that evening to celebrate his last year with Northwestern Mutual before retiring next year.  John celebrated his 40th anniversary earlier this year. Here are a few photos from that special evening at the St. Louis Cardinal’s stadium where Old Newsboys was honored.

Scott Niekamp along with Managing Partner, John M Qualy, presented a check on behalf of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation to Old Newsboys for $20,000 at the St. Louis Cardinals game Thursday, September 16th.

Thru the generosity of Scott Niekamp, John Qualy, and their associates, the Foundation was able to award Old Newsboys funds through their matching gift program.  This is in addition to the $10,000 grant Scott was awarded through Northwestern  Mutual’s Community Service Award earlier this year in July.
